Lives Remembered

In Their Memory

In Their Memory

We honor the lives and legacies of those remembered through Thumbs Up’s Legacy Giving Program. Each person here is deeply missed and cherished by family, friends, and community. We are grateful to the families who have chosen to share their loved one’s story with us.

Their memories remind us of the importance of compassion, connection, and hope. Through this program, their legacies continue to support a future where mental health is met with understanding and care.

We share each tribute with the family’s permission.

Bob Schmit

Bob Schmit’s legacy is carried forward through the “Thumbs Up” mental health organization, founded in 2014 to honor him and raise awareness after he lost his battle with mental health. His signature “thumbs up” gesture transformed into a poignant symbol of hope and community support, turning his story into a movement focused on suicide prevention. Today, this initiative continues to impact countless lives by promoting mental health education and providing essential community resources. We love you and miss you Grandpa Bob!

Jonathan Payne

Jonathan was an intelligent, sensitive boy. From the time he was little, he loved music, especially the “Three Tenors” and “Peter and the Wolf”. This led him to study the French horn, at which he excelled, and eventually earned his Master’s degree in music. He was an insatiable reader and never went anywhere without a book to read. He was open-minded and accepting of all types of people; curious about different opinions and ways of looking at ideas. He never seemed to judge
anyone. He felt a deep sense of responsibility for those he cared about. Though often serious, his best and most carefree moments came when he was with family, especially when we played games together. He left this world unaware of all those who felt their lives were better for having known him.
